Jayila Washington walked across the stage of River Rouge High School in 2012. The years have been kind and the work has been harder for Ms. Washington. In 2018 the city girl earned her Bachelor's Degree from Harris–Stowe State University in St. Louis Missouri. Jayila left home on a mission to return a better, more matured version of herself. She learned lessons along the way that weren't exclusive to a classroom. Life defining moments that she had to overcome alone, due to the her family s... Full story

  • City Of Ecorse Bringing Back The Fun

    Xaiver Jones|Jul 5, 2018

This Summer has been an interesting one to say the least. The freeways are constantly clogged with construction, potholes are still fighting strong, and it's been historically hot. Not to mention Lebron James is now a LA Laker. Summer 2018 has brought us two more surprises, straight from the city of Ecorse Michigan. Mayor Lamar Tidwell, and his team are welcoming back the Riverfront Fireworks Show and Family Movie Nights in the Park. The first movie night will be July 6th. A company donated the... Full story

  • The Tragedy of Mental Illness in Michigan

    Jul 5, 2018

Although it is commonly believed that Ronald Reagan was behind the push to shut down mental hospitals when he was governor of California, it really was fueled by bipartisan legislation in the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act. Reagan did believe, however, in smaller government and that community- based mental health centers in concert with concerned families were better options and better places than state institutions to care for the mentally ill. In Michigan, governor John Engler closed almost all... Full story

Dear U.S. Media, Democrats, Republicans, Independents and to the concerned Americans who poured out into the streets to protest Donald Trump's cruel and faulty immigration policies, What about us? We understand and applaud your response to this administration's malevolent separation of immigrant families from their children-policies and practices so un-American and shocking that they have come to dominate the national conversation. • After a 60 year wait, Willie O'Ree enters Hockey Hall of Fame

    James Abeare|Jul 5, 2018

It was 1958 and a little known winger, from the Quebec Aces, was called up to the Boston Bruins. That winger was Willie O'Ree, the first black hockey player in the National Hockey League. He is often referred to as the "Jackie Robinson of Hockey", though he might argue you about that. It then took 16 years and league expansion for the next black player, Mike Marson, was drafted by the Washington Capitols in 1974. By the mid 2010s, there were 23 black players in the NHL, the most prominent being... Full story

  • "An Eye-Opening Experience"

    Tasha B. Love|Jul 5, 2018

Dear Tasha, I really don’t know where to begin, because I’m really embarrassed to tell this story and ask for advice. I have a good friend that I’ve known since junior high school and let me just say that we are in our luscious forties now. She and I don’t get the opportunity to spend a lot of time together due to our family responsibilities; husbands, jobs and just life, but when we do we have a great time. However, we do make time to talk on the phone at least once a week and text mostly... Full story
