Fannie Mae Miles Bradford, at 89, has experienced more in her lifetime than many of the government officials who are advising us about our lives today. So, Mrs. Bradford is approaching the coronavirus scare with similar stamina that has seen her through many nerve shattering eras. Born December 15, 1930, the Dallas native lived through World War II, the Korean War, Viet Nam War, Civil Rights conflicts, news of various assassinations including President John Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.,...
Like most decent people, I was shocked but not surprised by seeing the videos coming out of Minneapolis, Minnesota showing George Floyd, 46, an unarmed and non-resistant African American man lying on the ground, facedown, and handcuffed with his hands behind his back. On top of him was a white police officer casually positioning hisknee across the neck of George Floyd for about eight ornine minutes.Other released videos now show that two other officers held down his legs and torso while another... Answer: A White person wants to know the difference between Black people marching and protesting versus White people's protests and marches. First, White people march and protest for rights that they only perceive have been taken away from them but not really. I have never seen in my 64 years here in America White protesting against getting murdered and nothing being done about it. Black people protest and march against Black men being unjustly murdered and how nothing ever gets done about it.... Full story
I recently came across an article on NewsOne.com that highlighted a furor on several social media platforms regarding whether wealthy pastors are contributing enough to COVID-19 relief efforts. Admittedly, some of the social media memes and tropes were amusing and of course, some were outright meanspirited, sophomoric and disrespectful but that's the complex mosaic of the social media space and if you're the public square at all, you have to be able to stomach the bitter and the sweet. As I... Full story
For nearly six weeks now, life as many of us have known it to be has been impacted by the Coronavirus. Many businesses have had to close the doors, people have lost their sources of income, their employment, etc. Life has seemingly caved in on us and is suffocating many. A forced quarantine is simply unprecedented. We have seen these times before since the early period of the 20th century. I've been concerned about the mental health of many people during this time, and with the daily death tolls, everyday had become, for me, filled with grief.... Full story
Church, don't let the Devil trick you. Just because you are not going to the church house Jesus still expects you to tithe and give offerings. The Lords' work in this world still continues even though we are not in one of His houses on earth. The Lord knows what we have and what we don't have. All He expects us to do is what we can do. 2nd Corinthians 8:12 Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don't have. At the beginning of... Full story
Black churches in America have faced the challenges of wars, arson and racism written into the law. Following several slave revolts, including Nat Turner’s Rebellion in 1831, Virginia passed a law that required that a white person be present during service. The COVID-19 pandemic has presented an unprecedented challenge for Black churches which, in part, is financial. In the wake of a killer pandemic impacting all businesses and local travel, African American churches across the U.S. have been forced to be innovative and make quick a... Full story
2 When Solomon had finished the temple of the Lord and the royal palace, and had succeeded in carrying out all he had in mind to do in the temple of the Lord and in his own palace, 12 the Lord appeared to him at night and said: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a temple for sacrifices. 13 “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and... My immediate reaction to a recent sermon I heard was to share it. Although this was not the topic of the message, the pastor’s comment about life and death made me think about my own obituary. It seems that the inventor of dynamite got an unusual chance to read his own obituary and was very irritated about what it said about him. The question that this little-known fact made me think about was, “How will God respond to mine?” Better yet, “How would I respond to my own obituary?” I mean if y... Full story
Have they confessed their sin and accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior? Life here on earth ends and most times without notice. Just because you are saved does not automatically make them saved. Your job from Jesus Christ is to number one, expose them to him at home by being a living witness in front of them in actions and speech. Live the word in front of them. Before and after they accept Christ as Savior take them to church, Sunday School, Bible Class, and have regular home Bible stu... Full story
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Christian faith. Without the resurrection, the belief in God's saving grace through Jesus is destroyed. When Jesus rose from the dead, he confirmed his identity as the Son of God and his work of atonement, redemption, reconciliation, and salvation. The resurrection was a real, literal, physical raising of Jesus' body from the dead. Jesus was arrested, tried and found guilty of claiming to be a king. His body was hung on a cross between... You know, I’ve got to give it to the devil. He truly is as slick as they come. It is my understanding that he has some power in this physical world and what amounts to zilch in the eternal kingdom of heaven. Hence, he has an advantage when it comes to orchestrating the events of this world, in order to accomplish two, very important things to him—things that we should all be aware of. One, I believe, is to get us to believe he doesn’t exist. Two, is to show us a perspective on this world that... Full story

How good and pleasant it is for [sisters] to dwell together in unity” (Psalm 37:4). Where there is unity, there is strength. I often hear women say that it is difficult to get along with other women. An aunt once told me, ‘women don’t to dress to impress men, they dress to impress other women.’ It’s almost like there is this secret competition going on. It can be subtle and sometimes it is blatant. Perhaps the sister rivalry stems from our innate desire to be the preferred apple of our Father’s eye. Some Daddy’s girls have a hard time sharing t...
