Last month the Inkster Community Foundation hosted their Annual 'Maroon & White" Scholarship Luncheon. The event titled 'Beyond the Horizon was an opportunity to award scholarships to graduating students from schools in the neighborhood. The goal of the group is to 'Enhance the lives of youth and the community' in several ways. Four ways that they make a difference are; Providing Scholarships, Inspiring Life-Long Learning, Advocating for Educational Empowerment and Enhancing the Quality of Life.
The awardees were Alondra Castaneda from Harry S. Truman High School; Izaiah Gardette from Hamilton Robichaud High School, Da'Kyra McGhee Monk from Harry S. Truman High School and Malaysia Nash from Hamilton Robichaud High School. All of the students have plans of continuing their education at a University.
A special treat for the attendees was the mini concert provided by Alexander Brown who sung two songs during the luncheon. He is also a graduating high school senior and stepped in to provide the musical selections.
The keynote speaker for the luncheon was Dr. Shelley Holt. She is the new Superintendent at Wayne Westland Community Schools.
The Inkster Community Foundation is an extension of the Inkster Public Schools Retirees and Spouses Association.
