Cancer Awareness and Resource Network, (CARN) is hosting its 2nd annual 6k "Colors of Cancer Race 4 Resources" to put the spotlight on all cancer types and their colors in a robust and inclusive way. Per the American Cancer Society statistics, cancer usually develops in older people; 86% of all cancers in the United States are diagnosed in people 50 years of age or older. We bring this statistic up for the same reason we're establishing our "Race 4 Resources" in the downriver area. We know the vast majority of the population in these communities fit the criteria of these stats and we want to help.
Research shows many families become financially depleted when cancer strikes their homes, mostly due to the high cost of care: whether its chemotherapy, radiation, cost of medicine or the loss of employment.
On Saturday, June 9th, 2018 we've planned a 6k Walk/Run "Colors of Cancer – Race 4 Resources" to continue to raise the awareness that ALL CANCERS MATTER!" The Colors of Cancer denotes the fact that every cancer has its own color (lung cancer is white, colon cancer is dark blue, prostate is light blue, pancreatic is purple, etc.) Participants will receive a t-shirt based on the color of cancer they represent.
The Race 4 Resources is to raise funds to support cancer fighters, caregivers, and their families everywhere. Our motto is: "Cancer doesn't discriminate...so we won't either."
If you are a cancer survivor, fighter, caregiver, or a supporter of this huge fight so many families are in, we need you to walk or run for somebody you know and love. Registration begins at 7:30 am. The "Race" begins promptly at 9:00am at the Memorial Park in River Rouge.
You can register at: http://www.goo.gl/MgDCRt or call (470) 771-CARN (2276) for more information.
