Rouge residents must speak out

RIVER ROUGE – A public hearing is when the citizens of a city are able to voice their comments on a certain issue that will affect the city. A public hearing must be published in a newspaper two weeks before the hearing date. Most notices for River Rouge are published in the Telegram Newspaper. However, this one was not.

I would like to inform the citizens of River Rouge that a public hearing will be held on Monday, October 5th at 4:00pm in the City Council Chambers. The purpose of the Public Hearing is to solicit public comments on the following: Proposed Amendment to the Zoning Ordinance: To amend Section 13.15, Green Overlay Zoning District as follows; Amend to include medical and recreational marijuana grow facilities and to allow for inclusion of certain non-residential properties in the Green Overlay Zoning District, subject to the City's rezoning process. (it goes on. View notice on http://www.telegramnews.net.

I'm confused. A public hearing on a Monday and at 4:00pm. This is during the time people are a work and most public hearings are held at the beginning of the regularly scheduled council meeting. Why is this one scheduled like this?

Residents of River Rouge, let your voice be heard. Attend the public hearing on Monday at 10600 W. Jefferson in Council Chambers. Your temperature will be taken when you enter the council chambers and you must wear a mask. For those who are concerned about COVID-19 or won't be able to attend the meeting on Monday, it's to late to mail in a response so call (313) 842-4203 or email [email protected]. If you are unable to reach someone at that number call the Mayor's office at 313-842-4200.
