Serving Metropolitan Detroit Since 1944
I traveled to Washington DC with a bus load of people that I didn't know. I was so excited as we gathered in Southfield for the long journey. I have been to the King Center in Atlanta numerous of times, but I wanted to get to the monument
I felt a sense of empowerment when I stood there amongst other people, that I didn't know. But on that day, we were all connected. We were honoring a man who had sacrificed it all for us.
Because of him and his leadership , we are able to vote, sit where we want to when traveling, eat at any restaurant, try on clothes in stores and much more.
Not only is a day set aside each year in the United States to celebrate and remember his life, but now there is a statue of him in Washington DC.
I felt empowered then and I carry his spirit of fighting for equality for others in my heart everyday.
.
Guess what? I feel empowered today.
