Serving Metropolitan Detroit Since 1944
George celebrated his 100th Birthday on August 4th with family and friends. He had a Drive-Thru celebration at SS Andrew and Benedict Catholic Church on Beatrice in Southwest Detroit.
His children Sheila, Donald and Stan were on hand for the celebration
The motto he lives by is - Try to keep healthy and stay active. He does exercise everyday and walks to the corner. Before the pandemic, he worked out at 'The Y' everyday.
He and his wife bought a home in Southwest Detroit when they moved from Chicago. He met his wife in Chicago and after they were married they moved to River Rouge where her parents lived. Three months later they bought a home in Southwest Detroit and he has been there ever since.
He served in World War II and was an overseas veteran. He got out of the service in 1945 right after they dropped the bomb on Hiroshima.
The message he would tell the young people is to stay active and eat healthy.
His son Donald went to the service and Stan became a lawyer. Many of the friends of his three children stopped by to say hello.
His favorite singer is himself, because he used to sing in the choir at church. He also is a fan of Nat King Cole. He would listen to him sing at a night club that he would attend on the weekends when he lived in Chicago.
Happy 100th Birthday to Mr. Grayson.
