Serving Metropolitan Detroit Since 1944
It was one of the hottest weekends to close out the month of August and the Women of Wisdom ministry of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, could be seen working as they were determined to have a successful community event. Temperatures outside were in the 90s, without a trace of wind blowing and the sun was brightly shining. That didn't stop the community outreach. The Community Fest 21 brought out 12 vendors, from Food Trucks and hotdog stands, to childrens and adult boutiques, church goers and Inkster residents. There was also a classic car showcase that had attendees talking. Each vendor table had a tent to keep them as cool as possible and tables to display their products and services. This was an event for all ages.
When talking to the Woman of Wisdom, President, First Lady Kimberly Willis, she gave the Telegrams News an insight to why community events and outreach is so important.
Clifton: What was the vision or purpose of this event?
Woman of Wisdom President: Our mission is to engage the community and to create an event to celebrate our small business owners in our church, to help build up their confidence, for many it was their first-time taking part in a vendor's event. Most importantly, we want to let the community know that we are here to serve them.
Clifton: Who were your vendors, in case someone may want to find out?
Woman of Wisdom President: Our list of vendors were...
-Krye Children's Botique: Shayla Hawthrone, Owner
-49Rose; Kim Willis, Owner
-RayneAnn Children's; Tori Newsome, Owner
-Sherrys So Lovely Gifts and Things; Sherry West-Jackson, Owner
-Tasty Fixin's
-Stellar Hot Dogs; Steven Smith, Owner
-Timothy Roberts & Associates LLC; Robert Ventour, Owner
Clifton: I noticed that there were people stopping by off the street to pick up school supplies. Tell us more!
Woman of Wisdom President: We gave away 100 bookbags filled with school supplies, crayons, notebooks, pens, pencils and masks.
Clifton: Which ministry put this event together and what is their mission?
Woman of Wisdom President: The Women of Wisdom is the ministry that put this together. Our mission is to have a bond and sisterhood where we can all come together to pray, encourage and motivate one another. Many of us wear various hats as wives, mothers, girlfriends, business owners and we want to build a relationship providing support.
Clifton: What can the community look forward to in the future for events?
Woman of Wisdom President: This was an inaugural event, next year it will be bigger and we are aiming to giveaway more backpacks next time.
