Serving Metropolitan Detroit Since 1944
Many times small cities get overlooked when it come to big projects. The City of Ecorse has some big ideas to transform their Department of Public Works (DPW) Department and their Police Department. The goal is to be better equipped to serve the residents of Ecorse.
The plan for the DPW is to build a new garage to be located at the City Hall. The project cost is just shy of $2 Million. From what has been discussed is that this project is shovel ready. The City has already completed the design and engineering of the proposed garage. Just having a garage for DPW equipment will have a swift return on investment as the life of equipment will be increased and the equipment and supplies won't be open to theft or vandalism. Another positive aspect of having the garage close to the City Hall, it will make accessing the equipment more efficient thus allowing the DPW to better service the residents.
Another project that the City is wants to tackle is the renovation of the police station. This project is expected to cost a little more than $1 Million dollars. The engineering plans have been finalized and a request for bids is ready to be issued once a commitment of support is complete. The current facility has not be significantly updated since its completion in the 1960s. The Police Department, residents, staff and visitors to the facility deserve to have an stress free and ergonomically designed place to attend training classes, work and even when spending time in the holding cells. This project also creates enhanced security through new technologies that will be more efficient for the officers and community.
These are just two of the projects that the City of Ecorse wants to work on. They are working hard to solicit funding opportunities to make these projects a reality as they plan to improve Ecorse from old to new.
