Partnership with Wayne County Sheriff and Ecorse Continues

With the spring and summer fastly approaching, Ecorse's Deputy Chief Jerry Flowers met with Sheriff Raphael Washington of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, to get a commitment to assist the Cities of Ecorse and River Rouge. The commitment will include augmenting police with special events and patrolling the areas when possible. This will also be in addition to assisting with the Task Force initiative that Ecorse, River Rouge, Detroit, Michigan State Police and the FBI have been conducting to investigate gang activity and the shootings that plagued the downriver communities last year.

Sheriff Washington was gracious in the meetings and expressed his desire to assist the communities in keeping the citizens safe.

Sheriff Washington agreed to assist with a "Scared Straight" program that Deputy Flowers is interested in doing. They call their program, "A dose of reality". The program would be to show kids who are exhibiting deviant behaviors or are easily influenced into doing bad things, the reality of jail by actually taking them to the Wayne County jail to actually see how horrible it is being imprisoned. Parents will have to sign a waiver and contact Deputy Flowers to have their kids involved. He can be contacted at the Ecorse Police Department – (313) 436-4015.
