It's time to celebrate being an entrepreneur

Happy 17th Anniversary to me

This week marks my 17th Anniversary as owner of the Telegram Newspaper. Whew!! What an accomplishment for me and my family! I am excited about this milestone. Who would have thought that after changing careers from being an engineer to being a publisher over 17 years ago I would still be enjoying my career. Now that Covid is over, its time to take the Telegram to another level. I hope you are with me.

I thank God for his continued Favor as I stepped out on being an entrepreneur 17 years ago. As any small business owner knows, if you don't work... you don't eat. I have never looked back. (Well not really. I did look back once early on when my finances were negative and I remembered those guaranteed $2,000/week checks that I used to get in Corporate America) But I pressed on, cut expenses and started to grind harder. I knew I would be successful, it was just going to be different.

As you read this week's issue, I want you to realize that it's not just me, The Telegram Lady, as people call me, that work diligently to publish the Telegram Newspaper each week. I rely on many people to accomplish this task. So this year I celebrate the reporters, delivery persons, administrative assistants, circulation representative, sales people, social media representatives, interns, printer, accountant and the Board of Directors for helping to keep me focused and for contributing their expertise to help me reach my goal of providing positive information to the people.

I would like to say Thank You for every one of the advertisers, subscribers and supporters of the Telegram News over these 17 years. Whether you bought one paper for 50 cents or just called to say thank you for covering that story, I appreciate you. My children, Alexandria and Michael along with my Bonus children Krystal, Kerbi, Larnell and Alan says thank you too. I can't leave out my 9.5 grandchildren who keep me young and encourages me to keep going. And of course, my immediate family; I couldn't do it without them.

It is also a humbling experience when I get recognized for just doing what I do. As you know, I always carve out time to be an advocate for people in Southeastern Michigan. I believe in using my voice in the Telegram and in the surrounding communities to help people live a more prosperous and healthy life. Join with me and let's work together to be a more healthier people who can leave a legacy for their family.

If you are reading this, you are the reason that this African American Woman owned media outlet is still growing, surviving and preparing to leave a legacy for the future.

Thank you for the love and support.
