Actor Hill Harper Officially Announced His Run for the 2024 US Senate Race in Michigan

Actor Hill Harper has announced that he is entering for the first time, into the 2024 Democratic primary Senate Race in Michigan. Hill Harper, known most recently for his role in the TV Series, "The Good Doctor" joins other candidates seeking to replace Senator Debbie Stabenow, as she will not be running for a fifth term.

Michiganders may not know this but, Harper, is not only an actor, he is a father, lawyer, Detroit business owner and has been a Detroit, Michigan resident since 2016. Harper is not completely new to the political arena, he is also an activist and he was chosen by President Obama and appointed to the cancer panel back in 2012, as a cancer survivor. During his campaign launch, Hill Harper stated that, "We deserve a better brand of politics than politics as usual". He also said that, "We need to build a new brand of leadership", this was in reference to getting people to the voting polls.

Over the past several years, work has been done to expand the voting rights and options for Michigan and Detroit resident voters. Now residents have 45 days of absentee ballots, 9 days of early voting and same day registration. Yet still, some people feel as though it doesn't matter if their vote even matters. That is what Hill Harper seems to be aiming for, changing the mindsets of individuals to ensure that they matter and that their voices are being heard during the voting season. Hill Harper hones in on the fact that will take place once it is powered by the people.

This week, Harper's campaign asked for volunteers to help collect at least 30,000 signatures that is needed within the next 180 days to make it on the ballot. Supporters were asked and encouraged to meet downtown in front of Ford Field on July 26th between 5pm – 7pm to help achieve the goal by collecting those signatures outside of the Beyonce Renaissance Tour Concert.

Hill Harper launched his campaign earlier this month in Downtown Detroit at Cadillac Square. Currently there are only three other Black men who currently serve as Senators in the United States. They are Senators, Rev. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.). If Hill Harper were to win the election, he will make number four..

The Senate seat is one that is desirable by both political parties, the Republicans and Democrats for control of the upper chamber in the 2024 race. Harper is now the sixth Democratic Candidate to enter the 2024 race in what some consider to be the battleground state. Michigan continues to be a must-win state for Democrats, if they wish to maintain control of the Senate.
