Trenton, MI (January, 2024) – The local American Association of University Women (AAUW), Downriver Branch, will be hosting a fun "Scaveng-HER" event to support the women-owned businesses in Trenton. The event is planned for Saturday, March 9th from 12 noon to 4:00pm. The event is free and open to the public.
The event coincides with Women's History Month, which is also celebrated in the month of March. There will be about 40 Trenton women-owned businesses who will each feature a "Woman in History" at their store or shop. Each "woman from history" that is showcased will be somehow associated with the merchant's profession or industry.
Participants will start the Scaveng-HER quest at The Framery, 2621 West Jefferson, where they will pick up a scaveng-HER card that lists all of the participating locations. Then between noon and 4pm, they will need to visit the merchants of their choosing, locate the display about the woman in history and fill out their entry card with that woman's name. Facts about that woman and her role in history will also be located on each display.
The participating merchants will be located along West Jefferson as well as down West Road, so the attendees will have a chance to see what each business offers in the way of products and services and support them through their purchases as they work to fill out their scaveng-HER card.
Once the participants have visited the merchants, and noted the woman's names on their entry card, the card can be dropped off at one of two locations: The Framery, or the Open Book Theater, 1621 West Road.
All cards turned in will be entered into a drawing for prizes.
"As a woman business owner and AAUW member, I wanted to support my fellow woman-owned businesses here in Trenton to showcase what great merchants we have in this city, so this was a fun way to promote the city of Trenton and its shop owners and entrepreneurs", states Shelby Margitan, co-owner of The Framery with her sister, Ashlie Mooney.
Two upcoming events for the AAUW Downriver branch is the 9th Annual STEM SAVVY event for 120 middle school girls, which is scheduled for May 9th at the WCCCD campus in Taylor, and the awarding of $25,000 in scholarships to Downriver students at their May 14th branch meeting.
