We're wearing denim on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, to take a stand against sexual violence.
Denim Day is a campaign that takes place every year to raise awareness about sexual violence and to support survivors. It originated in Italy in the 1990s in response to a case where a young woman was raped by her driving instructor. The Italian Supreme Court overturned the conviction, stating that because the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped her attacker remove them implying consent.
As a result, women in the Italian Parliament wore jeans to work in solidarity with the victim and the movement spread internationally.
Wearing denim on Denim Day became the symbol of protest against harmful, attitudes and myths surrounding sexual assault and victim blaming. Wear denim on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 to support survivors and end sexual violence.
