May Memorials Kick Off to Honor Law Enforcement and their Families in Michigan

Grand Rapids, MI: Michigan residents are invited to join Law Enforcement, and their families for a special Memorial at the Michigan State Capitol on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 7:00 PM. Details provided in attached handout. Media encouraged to attend.

For 30 years, this event has taken place. Police Week Michigan is excited to help elevate and promote this important gathering hosted by MI-C.O.P.S. Citizens, elected leaders, and communities are encouraged to attend.

Police Week Michigan Chair Amy Hawkins noted, "I believe that the majority of Michigan citizens value and respect Law Enforcement. But for too long we have been the silent majority. Our presence at gatherings such as this Memorial send a message to the families of Officers who have been killed or wounded in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to serve: we have their backs."

Police Week 2024 falls between May 12 - 18, 2024. Police Week in America was initiated by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 out of his desire to acknowledge and demonstrate appreciation to America's Law Enforcement. It is a tradition that continues.

Additional activities around the state include:

Ferris State University 19th Annual Police Memorial, May 7, 9 AM

Jackson City on Wednesday, May 8 at noon downtown Jackson
