Memorial Day Observances and Events 2024

Events commemorating Memorial Day are happening all over our community. If you plan to stay at home, the Disabled American Veterans encourage everyone to pay tribute to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country by spending a moment of silence at 3 p.m. EST on Monday, May 27. Read on for some observances which may be happening near you.

In River Rouge, a Memorial Day Celebration and flag-raising will take place on Saturday, May 25 at noon at the Memorial Park flagpole. Afterward, the ceremony will proceed to the Pine and Jefferson Memorial.

In Westland, a Wayne-Westland Veterans Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 26 at 1 p.m. The parade will begin at John Glenn High School and head north towards the Veteran's Memorial Garden where a Memorial Day Ceremony will take place.

Events taking place on Monday:

In Dearborn, the 98th Annual Memorial Day Parade will take place on Memorial Day, May 27 at 9:30 a.m. with a military funeral procession. The parade route will be along Michigan Avenue beginning at Nowlin Street and eastward to South Brady Street. This year's parade will pay special tribute to Purple Heart recipients. A Remembrance Ceremony will take place at noon on the lawn of the Dearborn Historical Museum, located at 915 Brady Street.

In Allen Park, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion will host a Memorial Day Ceremony on Memorial Day at noon at the Veterans Memorial at the old Veterans Hospital site at Southfield and Outer Drive.

In Farmington, the annual Farmington Memorial Day Parade will take place on Memorial Day at 10 a.m. The parade route will follow Grand River Avenue between downtown Farmington at Farmington Road and Orchard Lake Road. A memorial ceremony will follow the parade along with a free community luncheon hosted by the American Legion.

In Ecorse, The Ecorse Historical Society reminds you to join them for the 8th Annual Memorial Day Celebration, scheduled for Monday, May 27, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at John D. Dingell Park, located at 4501 W. Jefferson Ave., Ecorse, MI 48229. This year's theme, "Celebrate, Honor, and Remember," aims to pay special tribute to Ecorse's brave veterans. Director Brian L. Love of the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency will provide key remarks.

In Inkster, The Inkster Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 27, 2024. We are proud to once again ho􀀦or the brave men and women who sacrifice so much for our security and freedom. Inkster's parade is the second oldest parade in the state and is always a spectacular event.

The parade will start at 12 noon and staging of participants will being at 10 am at the Inkster Town Plaza at the comer of Michigan Ave. and Inkster Rd. The parade route will set out eastbound on Michigan Ave. down to Bayhan St. and will proceed down Trowbridge St. to end at Inkster City Hall. The Veterans Memorial as well as the judging of bikes and floats will take place at City Hall immediately following the parade. There will be food vendors set up as weU.

The theme for this year is "BIKES". How fun would it be for everyone to come together and ride their bikes in the parade? This will be an eiciting time for children and families to participate. Bring out the tricycles, dirt bikes, mountain bikes, mini bikes, motorcycles, etc. There will be prizes awarded for the best bikes, best decorated bikes, as well as there will be a prize for the best float.
