Serving Metropolitan Detroit Since 1944

Michigan Fashion Week

Michigan Fashion Week is a four day event that brings the best out of Michigan's fashion community. Veteran, active, and student designers showcase their work for experts and consumers. For twelve consecutive years, Loren Hicks has worked to bring us Michigan Fashion Week. Michigan Fashion Week is designed to provide the bridge between fashion designers, models, photographers, model agencies, make-up and hair stylists, and entrepreneurs in the beauty, and fashion industry to consumers and spectators. While simultaneously giving designers an affordable platform to showcase their work. The theme of 2024 is Glamour Cloud. Where fashion transcends Earthly boundaries and transports spectators to a place where imagination serves as ruler.

Loren Hicks is a Detroit native who remembers how the city operated in its olden years. She has lived and traveled to many cities, but insists that Detroit has an energy that cannot be duplicated. Loren designs her own brand, LOJO Fashion + Design. In between her executive duties and dozens of designers, Loren still had a chance to present in the show.

Out of all the designers present, I had the chance to speak with three. Gena Culler-Green and her line, G. Culle. Katrina Brown and her line, Love Code. Lastly, Badesere Aboyade-Cole, and his line Badesere Lagos.

Gena Culler-Green and G. Culle - Gena presented in both The streetwear and high fashion shows. She also served on the board of Michigan Fashion Week as Director of Fashion. Her first experience at designing started when she begin to experiment with colors and prints while making clothes for her first child. To this day Gena is still motivated by her family and has added two more beautiful babies to be inspired by.

Katrina Brown and Love Code - Katrina Brown wears two hats. She is also the owner of City Talk Magazine, and a 6th grade Math teacher. Love Code is a contemporary brand that's known for its style and affordability. Katrina creates clothes for fashionistas, working men, and the couple who wants to look good for a night out. Love Code presented in the Friday night street wear showcase.

And lastly,

Badesere Aboyade-Cole and Badesere Lagos - Badesere is a man native to the land of Nigeria. His goal is to share his Yoruba roots and Nigerian culture with the world through fashion. His brand has created jobs for youth back in Nigeria. This has inspired the younger generation to find their fashion footprint on their own. Badesere presented in the Saturday night high fashion showcase.
