Ecorse, MI – June 17, 2024 – The City of Ecorse proudly welcomes the community back to the Ecorse Public Library, a beacon of learning, technology, and community connection. After extensive renovations, the library boasts not only new collections and advanced technology but also superior amenities designed to enhance the community's library experience.
A Fresh and Modernized Facility
Located at 4184 West Jefferson Ave., the Ecorse Public Library now features a clean, modern layout with new paint, carpet, furniture, free-standing shelves, and updated lighting. A new circulation desk, a remodeled vestibule, and a refurbished public bathroom enhance the library's welcoming environment. Notably, the library offers a drive-up Book Return accessible 24/7 and is equipped with 8 public computers that include new hard drives and 20-inch monitors.
Rich Collections and Expansive Resources
The library's collection has been diligently curated, featuring new and popular materials, including an impressive opening day Juvenile Fiction collection funded by The Library Network. Patrons can enjoy Family Fun Kits, Life Kits, and a Board Game collection, all available for checkout. Through The Library Network membership, patrons have access to books from dozens of affiliated libraries, discounted passes to state parks, and reciprocal borrowing privileges from institutions like Wayne State University Libraries.
Engaging Events and Educational Programs
This summer, the Ecorse Public Library has curated a variety of programs designed to engage all ages:
• Daniel Simmons, Mr. Tech You Up - June 26th: A session on cybersecurity and PowerPoint presentations, featuring a laptop giveaway.
• Mike Wilson's Computer Training - Beginning June 13th: Covering Google search basics, smartphone usage, and email setup, tailored for seniors.
• Storytime in the Park - Fridays, June 21st to August 9th: Family-friendly storytelling and activities at various parks around Ecorse.
• Special Events - Mark your calendars for 'Animal Magic with Mark Rosenthal' on June 18th, storytelling with Lynn Hartwig on July 11th, and performances by Crazy Craig the Juggler and Cameron Zvara in July and August.
A Library Beyond Books
With a focus on both educational and recreational programming, the Ecorse Public Library serves as a community hub for meeting, studying, reading, or accessing local information. Upcoming enhancements include a digital monument sign and new landscaping to ensure the exterior reflects the library's interior updates, with completion expected by fall.
