Serving Metropolitan Detroit Since 1944
INKSTER - Year after year, parents and children take advantage of summer camps all around Michigan and throughout the Metro Detroit Area. Summer camps offer children an array of benefits that helps foster growth, independency, a sense of community and leadership development. Truly transformative to those who participate, summer camps can be a vital component in summer enrichment.
Locally in Western Wayne County, there is, Boys2Men Summer Camp for children and teenagers from ages 9-18. Located in the city of Inkster, Get a Life Service Inc., has been aiding in child development since it was established in 2018. This summer camp helps to provide youth and young adults with life skills such as car maintenance, dating etiquette and how to dress for the occasion.
Get a Life Inc., CEO Dr. Leon Crawford, Jr. is the pastor of CitiPraise Café, Coffee & Christ, located in Inkster. He was excited about sharing with the Telegram News about his organization. "If we don't prepare them or get them prepared for the future, hopelessness breads hope are them or get them prepared for the future, hopelessness breads hopelessness", he said. In the city of Inkster, their public school system was dissolved in 2013 by former Governor, Rick Synder. Once the school system was shutdown, students were divided into four different school districts, which left dividing the community and therefore, making it hard for kids to participate in after-school programs and it also took away some of the summer programs that were once in the community. Now, with the regrowth and rebirth of the city, the community is making strides to providing more services for its youth.
Boys2Men Summer Camp opened its registration at the beginning of June. By the end of the first day, 60 boys had registered. Currently, there are at least 100 or more boys on file for the summer program. The good news is Get a Life Inc., is still accepting applications for youth to enroll and yes, girls and young ladies are welcomed! Adults and children, can expect that by the end of camp, they would have experienced growth by the services that are provided.
If you want to enroll your child, here are a few items you should know, about Boys2Men summer camp. There's only one rule and it's to be on time, don't be late and do not miss any sessions. Attendance is important! Food is provided by local area sponsors and partnerships. By the end of camp, Dr. Leon Crawford Jr., says that, participants will get to enjoy a pizza and pool party. Culminating the end of the program, there is a graduation that takes place.
The goal and vision of this organization, is to one day expand into the school systems to provide their services to children in an after-school program. Get a Life Inc., is currently looking for community partnerships and funding. In fact, on July 20th, Get a Life Services presents a charity Bowl-A-Rama for all to attend at Ford Lanes in Dearborn Heights, MI.
