Detroiters, are you planning to attend the 16th Annual "Jazz on the Ave" block party? Put it on your calendars now! Mike's Fresh Market and the University Commonwealth has announced that this event, will be held along the historic Livernois Avenue of Fashion. The event will take place on August 3, 2024 on Livernois between McNichols and 8-mile roads from 11am to 8pm.
A family-friendly community event for everyone. This year, you can expect live performances, free food (while it last), a 360 booth for photos and a car-show, along with other activities. Families who have children, you will have fun as well, the host didn't forget about you. There will be face painting, along with a Drop-in Art Making with the Detroit Institute of Arts. This year's host, shared with the Telegram News, how thoughts and feeling for this year. "We are excited to host another year of Jazz on the Ave block party on the Historic Livernois Avenue of Fashion. We started this event as a small customer appreciation event and it has grown in size and participation each year." said, Lolita Haley, Executive Director of University Commonwealth.
Originally starting back in 2008, "Jazz on the Ave" came together from a team of community leaders that simply felt the need to show their supporters and customers, thanks. Jamal Abro, owner of the Mike's Fresh Market that's located on the Avenue of Fashion, shared that he looks forward to giving back to his community every year. Another goal of those community leaders, are to make things better on "The Ave" and the surrounding communities. Prizes and giveaways will take place every hour.
Performances will take place on the James Tatum Stage from 1pm – 7pm.

In case you are unaware, University Commonwealth is the longest standing Non-Profit organization on the Avenue of Fashion. Formerly University Commons, University Commonwealth is not only comprised of community leaders, but also, realtors and religious organizations.
