Michigan Dems Rally Together to Support Presidential Candidate, VP Kamala Harris

Democrats held their first press conference in Michigan, in support of Vice President, Kamala Harris. Michigan's Speaker of the House Joe Tate, Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans, and Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield along with State Representative Stephanie Young and others spoke about the future of America's democracy. They also spoke about their endorsement of Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States.

During the press conference, a stark contrast between VP, Kamala Harris' vision for America's future and Donald Trump's Project 2025 agenda was compared. The elected officials repeatedly told the crowd that Trump's Project 2025 agenda would not only take our country backwards, but it would make the lives of the American people and Michiganders to be exact, harder. "Vice President Harris, has been critical to the historic successes of the Biden-Harris administration, from investing in our cities and getting us through the COVID-19 pandemic, to rebuilding our infrastructure and fighting to protect Michiganders' rights and freedoms," said Speaker of the House, Joe Tate.

Wayne County Executive, Warren C. Evans told the room, "There's not really a choice here. Kamala Harris has the background, she has worked for the last four years to help get us where we are. And she's done it because we know that people of color and women have a tougher road...She is the person who can go toe to toe with Donald Trump about the future of America."

Local Southwest Detroit and Downriver residents have seen some major changes in their area, over the past four years. These communities have experienced, revitalization, rebuilding and rebranding. For those that reside in this area, this election season has created great concern. Families are worried about their jobs, the state of their health, whether or not, if they will be broken up from their relatives, and other concerns that haven't been spoken about. What is known, is that they have elected officials in office who represent them and their concerns.

State Representative Tyrone Carter said to residents, "I think it will be a continuation of what has taken place. A lot of people don't know that in River Rouge, DTE had that a coal-burning plant and that Belanger Park was contaminated. Through the Biden administration's EPA, they gave them enough money to remediate that park, so that people can enjoy that riverfront. I don't know if that would've happened, if other folk were in that office. We need to continue that kind of action because, that has been an underserved community for a long time."

Veronica Piaz, Michigan State Representative spoke to the Telegram News about her and the Hispanic and Latino community's concerns. She said, "The President's been working on the border problem, I agree there is something to be looked at, they are concerning...They can't continue being ugly as they were under Trump...Kamala Harris is going to end it, that's what I think. Overall, the changes that we are looking for on an immigrant level if you will, we have farmers coming in who need their laborers...there are all these issues that pertain to the state at large. We need to pay attention to workers in all realms...".

Currently, ABC News/Ipsos polls are saying that since Joe Biden stepped out of the 2024 presidential election and endorsed Vice President, Kamala Harris as his replacement on the Democratic Ticket, enthusiasm and interest in voting has strengthened among Democrats. There's less than 99 days left until Election Day. The race to the White House is swiftly coming to an end. In the coming weeks or days, we will know who Kamala Harris has chosen to be her running mate as, Vice President.

The message was clear, we must Get out and Vote!
