The Wayne Public Library is wrapping up their reading program for the summer. August 2nd ends the adventure for the library. On August 3rd, they plan to host a finale party for the program. There will be snacks, games, and an announcement of the grand prize winners for this year.
Library Director Jody Wolak spoke on the importance of the program. "It's a great way to encourage yourself and your family to read more over the summer."
Even though summer is almost over, the library provided great activities for their community. Back in June they held an indoor camping adventure, a magic show from Ming the Magnificent Magician, Secret Agent Training and more for young kids. For teens, the library held a silent book reading club, "Teen Dragon Eyes" where participants can mold dragon eyes out of clay, and Teen Snackventures, an event for people to try snacks from various countries of the world.
As summer continued, In July, they offered various programs for people of all ages. They hosted an adventure bingo night, a Hobbit Night with snacks, crafts, and games based on Lord of the Rings, and gave the opportunity for people to build their own solar ovens to cook with.
For August, a few of the same events will be taking place including a Teen Anime club.
Besides their extensive programs, the Wayne Public Library wants everyone to enjoy the resources they offer. The library has a Home Delivery service, which delivers items to people who live in Wayne and cannot leave their homes.
For those interested in getting a card, it's quite easy. Residents who live in Wayne would just need their valid state ID. Those who reside elsewhere would need to bring a card from their home library to use at the Wayne Public Library. If someone doesn't have or want a card, they can still use the libraries computers, the kids play area, attend programs, read, and study.
Once someone has a card, they can check out up to 100 books. Other than books, people can check out movies on DVD or Blu-ray, audiobooks, magazines and music CDs. Digital e-books, movies, TV shows, music, and more can be checked out through services like Libby or Hoopla.
"We're seeing record numbers of digital checkouts - it's incredibly convenient and lets you use your library from wherever you are, right on your phone, tablet, or computer," said Wolak.
On March 29th, 2023, the library launched a Seed Library, which corresponds with a seed-saving presentation by Bevin Cohen, the award winning author and founder of the Michigan Seed Library Initiative. Through this program, people can "borrow" seeds to plant at no cost. Then towards the end of growing season, patrons can "return" the seeds produced by the plants they grew. Various herbs, nutritious vegetables and beautiful flowers are produced each year.
The Wayne Public Library is a great place for memories to be made. They not only offer programs for the youth but for people of all ages. The library offers unique ways to make education fun, and to get people involved in their community. Director Wolak is proud of all the work they have and will continue to do for the city of Wayne.
"I like to think we are a pretty well-known gem, and that more people are discovering everything we have to offer every day!"
