Serving Metropolitan Detroit Since 1944
Encouraged, excited, and empowered, are words that can be used to describe Michiganders, after attending Detroit Rallies of VP, Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz. Detroit, has been visited by many different leaders; politicians, UAW President, state and local government officials, just to name a few.
The visit from VP Harris and Governor Tim Walz was one to remember. It was clear that the message that was conveyed to attendees, left many engaged supporters, ready to work and to continue with getting the message out to their friends, loved-ones and community. Harris told attendees where she stands, what is important and what is required as a nation to uphold our democracy here in America.
After landing in Detroit on Air Force Two, VP Kamala Harris was greeted with a booming welcome that consisted of cheers, handclapping and chants from close to 15,000 attendees. Can you imagine the level of energy that was produced by supporters during this time. The reality is that, no matter who you decide to vote for in November, the 2024 presidential campaign is a historic one.
Leaders from all over Michigan, took the stage to speak directly to the hearts and minds of the crowd. They came sharing their viewpoints to supporters, why they are backing Harris to be the next elected president. Wayne County Executive, Warren C. Evans told the crowd, "There is no candidate more qualified than Kamala Harris...You look at what's going on and say, now...I feel that we will win this thing. Ladies and gentlemen, what we are doing here is what my pastor would say, we're preaching to the choir. These candidates have done everything they can do, now we have to pull people in." Also on stage, was the city of Detroit's mayor, Mike Duggan, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, along with other Democratic congressional delegates.
Harris, touched on topics that everyone in the room at some point could relate. UAW President Shawn Fain told everyone in the building to their surprise, "A bad ass woman, who stood on the picket line with fighting workers. A leader that takes on corporate greed and wins. Like all great leaders, Kamala Harris knows it's about the people." The UAW has endorsed VP Harris and Gov Tim Walz.
As the campaign trail continues here in Detroit, Local Women in Leadership gathered to mobilize Black women to elect VP Harris. The People's Expert, Dr. Sabrina Jackson told the Telegram News at Detroit's Garden Theatre, "First of all it is very important for women, black women to support each other. We hear all the time that women can't get along, but this room has a synergy of energy that's unmatched and unparallel. So as the, People Expert, I understand that people need to connect and Kamala this ticket is bringing a level of connection...oh my God...oh my God, I cannot wait to see what we do. I just believe that we working together is going to change the world."
Since the beginning of the 2024 Presidential Election season, we have watched and heard various opinions about Vice President Harris. As the keynote speaker, Rep. Maxine Waters, took to the podium with confidence, energy and poise. She unequivocally, expressed her stance on the Harris-Walz ticket. Having shared facts with the women in the audience, she did ask some rhetorical questions that left attendees to sit and pondered. Waters said, "She's well equipped to do it...she understands economics really well." The mention of "Project 2025" came up in conversation and Congresswoman Waters had this to say, "Well, let me just say this, the reason Project 2025 must be paid attention too, that is their description for the future, that description is not a description that is synonymous with our democracy. It is about making changes that I would consider and many, unconstitutional, and so that's very serious and we cannot allow it to go unnoticed. He is trying to back away from it but those are his people, those are MAGA people, who are and have developed 2025. It is serious, we have to pay attention it, we have to understand it..."
There is no secret, Michigan has a major hand in this upcoming election in November. Every demographic seems to be represented and spoken for. It seems that the Harris-Walz ticket is knowledge that they cannot afford to leave any rock unturned. Michigan is a critical state and everyone across the political arena, understands that Michigan has the power to change our future by voting. According to CBS News poll: Gender gap, enthusiasm, economy makes for a tight Harris-Trump race. However, the day before the Democratic National Convention started, reports stated that VP Kamala Harris leads Trump in Polls.
"While fighting for a brighter future may take hard work, we all here know hard work is good work...I am clear, the path to the White House runs right through this state and with your help, we will win in November, we will win." said, VP, Kamala Harris at the Harris-Walz Rally in Detroit.
