Serving Metropolitan Detroit Since 1944
For many adults, entering the workforce or transitioning to a new field, isn't always easy or readily available. It oftentimes can be nerving, a bit challenging and it takes time to land the gig that best suites you. Yet still, internships offer a wonderful opportunity to get your foot in the door. For example, internships can catapult you into a full-time or permanent position within the company or your field of interest.
Meet our very own intern, Oriane Flint. She is the 2nd Telegram News Spotlight this year. A 22-year-old, Journalism and Media Production student, attending the University of Michigan-Dearborn. As the Fall semester begins, Oriane, is excited to be starting her senior year in college. She has an extensive list of accomplishments that she would like to pursue post college.
Oraine Flint, has a similar story as most college aged adults, when it comes to how she landed becoming the Telegram News intern. It all started on University of Michigan-Dearborn internship office. As a go-getter, Flint, took it upon herself to make the connection with the internship office. She reached out, ended up attending a seminar and it went from there. She was sent an email about summer internships and she saw that the Telegram News had been posted on the list. She continued by sending over her resume, following up and in the end, landing the job.
Since being on the team of the Telegram News, she has helped in various aspects. She has helped to edit articles that have been submitted for publication. During the summer, she has worked on various stories, including sports. When asked, Oriane Flint, told us about what she has learned about news writing during the summer. She said, "Overall to be more concise, especially since I want to write books. Getting facts right within a timely manner and to represent the individual or person in a way that they want to be interpreted."
When she's not working, writing or studying for school, Oriane is watching her favorite news sources a lot. Can you guess which one? CNN and a lot of ESPN. In 10 years, she sees herself becoming successful, as a sports reporter first and then working to her ultimate goal of sports anchor. Born in Dearborn, MI, Oriane Flint, actually grew up in Metro Detroit, city of Redford. After spending her first five years of living there, her family moved South to Columbia, SC and then to Jacksonville, Fl before heading back North. Now for the past four years, she has called Southgate, MI home.
When someone loves sports like Oriane Flint does, you must know what are her favorite sports teams. Living here in Michigan, where sports is highly ranked and the rivalry is beyond comprehension, there's no hidden secret that Michiganders are true die-hard sports fans. Ironically, Oriane Flint favorite teams are the following: NBA-Denver Nuggets and NFL-Kansas City Chiefs. She said, "The Pistons are going nowhere but, I try to route for our home team and the Detroit Lions, had us thinking we were going to the Superbowl but they played us."
Growing up, both she and her father bonded over watching sports together. Now she doesn't play sports but, she just loves to watch them and hopefully she'll be on our tv screens in the near future.
Oriane Flint, the entire staff of the Telegram Newspaper would like to thank you for your contribution to our newsroom. We wish you well in your future endeavors and we wish you much success this school year and beyond.
As you can see, internships are important! Treat them as though they are a real job because you never know what opportunities may arise or the life-long connections that you will obtain. To all college students, take the necessary steps, inquire, follow-up and get yourself out there. Pursue the countless opportunities and succeed. Adding an internship on your resume, it a great way to showcase your work-related, hands-on experiences. Take notes from Oriane Flint's story and land that gig!
