Wayne County Leads Michigan Counties When It Comes To Energy Efficiency

Series: NEWS FROM WAYNE COUNTY | Story 1

DETROIT – Wayne County has surpassed its milestone of $100 million in PACE financing for energy-efficient projects. This remarkable achievement is a reflection of Wayne County's successful utilization of the PACE program to mobilize private capital for the development of eco-friendly buildings.

The PACE program provides financing for sustainable economic development projects which could be used toward installing environmentally friendly HVAC systems, windows, solar panels, and the like. This program is reducing Wayne County's carbon footprint while also creating jobs and spurring economic development.

"As a key component of our economic development initiatives, we have been focused on prioritizing sustainability and environmental stewardship," said Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans. "Achieving this milestone is evidence of my administration's commitment to environmental sustainability, and the fact that we recognize it is not simply an option but the way of the future."

Although there are 59 jurisdictions throughout Michigan participating in the Lean & Green Michigan PACE market, Wayne County is the clear leader, with 29 PACE projects accounting for 32% of all projects in the state. Not only has Wayne County done almost one-third of the projects in the State, but it has also financed more than $100 million of improvements, again making Wayne County the leading PACE county in Michigan, leading the way when it comes to environmental sustainability.
