It's Possible to Lose and Still Win

I woke up on Wednesday morning like many of my friends. It was filled with a little anxiety, exhaustion, disbelief and a little anger. I had fallen asleep with the TV, so when I woke up, I heard Donald Trump giving his acceptance speech. I kinda had the feeling that Vice-President Kamala Harris was going to come up short as the vote totals were coming in before I dozed off. So as the morning hours were ticking away, I took time to just do nothing and process what had happened.

I was upset that she had lost the election to become the president of the United States. I replayed the conversations that I had with people during the campaign when people would say that she was not qualified for the position. She has more governmental experience than George Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump. But then, I had a flash back to the morning when Hillary Clinton lost her election to become President of the United States. I remember that I had those same feelings.

Mrs. Clinton lost the election to become the first women president of the United States, but as she said, she cracked the glass ceiling. She lost, but she conceded with grace and for the past eight years, she has been a role model for other ladies and girls on how to carry themselves. She is a winner.

Mrs. Harris lost her election to become the first women president of the United States on Tuesday. She too conceded with grace. Both ladies are winners in my book. They have been at the table when they were the only lady present. They both worked hard to use the education they gained, the skills they earned and the relationships they built they served in top positions to help run the Country that they love. I admire them and I can’t wait for the crack in the glass ceiling to open a little more for the next lady that is qualified for the position.

I thank them for taking on the biggest challenge there is…to be the 1st Woman to serve as President of the United States of America. They may have lost their election, but they are winners in my book.
