Star International National Honor Society Students Hosts 9th Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon in Dearborn Heights

The Holiday Season has arrived and Thanksgiving is this week! It's that time that people begin to noticeably express gratitude, as they reflect on the events and situations that have occurred throughout the year. For others, this time of year, is more about showing appreciation towards those that have been placed in our lives, simply by telling them and/or doing various acts of kindness for them. Indeed, that is exactly what the National Honor Society students from Star International Academy has done for the ninth consecutive year.

Last week, those students hosted the 9th Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon, as a way to thank leaders from across Dearborn Heights for their commitment and dedication to their community. It turned out to be another year of success. "Hosting this luncheon is just one way for our students to show their gratitude... While many of us will enjoy time with our families over the holiday, these public servants will be on duty, keeping our city safe. This gathering is our small way of saying, 'thank you' for their work and sacrifice," said Hani Abdallah, principal of Star International Academy.

Those in attendance were specially invited guests. They included, Dearborn Heights Mayor Bill BazzACCESS, the Arab American National Museum, just to name a few. According to Star International Academy, this event gave a chance for students to connect directly with those who serve and protect them, emphasizing the importance of having established relationships within the community.

This wasn't just your typically luncheon either, upon arrival, guest was greeted with smiles and were welcomed by the honor students. Once the time had come for lunch to be served, you guessed right, the attendees were served by the Honor Society Students. Star International Academy honor students, were very hands-on throughout the entire event. National Honor Society President, Mariam Fakhuridin said, "As students, we're inspired by the selflessness of our local heroes...Their commitment to our community encourages us to serve others as well, and we are honored to celebrate their contributions at this year's luncheon."

Star International Academy told us that, they are proud to continue in this annual tradition, reinforcing the bond between students and the public servants who help to shape a safe and supportive environment for everyone in Dearborn Heights. Asst Superintendent Ozama Bazzi, in a one-on-one conversation with the Telegram News, she told us, "It's not just about the academics, it's the bits and pieces of community members that are involved in the education setting. It's a small token of appreciation that we can do...I would like to give a shout out to everyone that was involved in the safety and support for our students."

Thanksgiving is this week; have you been inspired by the students at Star International Academy? How will you show gratitude and thankfulness, this year?
