Black MAGA: Is This What You Wanted?

The American majority has decided that Donald J Trump will be the next best individual to run the country for the next four years. According to Google, Trump won 49.9% of the popular vote. While Vice President Kamala Harris 48.4%.

Black men, black women, and Latino women in majority voted for Harris. White men, white women, and Latino men casted their vote for Trump. I've been alive enough to not be surprised. Regardless of lifestyle or income, white American voters, in general, are loyal to the republican party. What drove me to disbelief was not the overwhelming number of minorities who voted red. But the number of minorities who fell victim to the propaganda and trafficking of misinformation from the republican side.

I spoke with dozens of black men who were in support of Donald Trump. The main reason being. "Everything was so expensive under Biden". Those same black men magically forget the global Covid-19 pandemic, where a sickness put the world on pause. These men also do not hold Donald Trump accountable for his mishandling of the pandemic. But they place him on a pedestal for the unemployment benefits, stimulus checks, and cheaper gas during the lockdown era.

In the same breath, these black men have zero knowledge of Trump's Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). A 2017 tax code passed by the 45th President. That ultimately does what Republican economic policies have always done. Benefit the ultra wealthy, while the less fortunate wait for the benefits to "trickle down".

Instead of investigating the consequences of the TCJA. The men I've spoken to insist that "immigrants are taking America's resources", and "when we get rid of the immigrants the country will be better". One thing I've noticed in every conversation with these black men. They're prone to base their opinions on convenient half truths, and misinformation.

I will not deny that we have had border problems in the past. But mass deportations will not fix the economy overnight.

Experts claim that Trump's mass deportation plan will cost the country more money than it will save. The goal is to reform the immigration system and asylum seeking systems. We would be closer to this goal. But Donald Trump used his leverage in Washington to tank the bill. So the issue will be the legs his campaign could run on.

The most laughable defense of Donald Trump came in regards to a guarantee to bring grocery prices down. I had to point out that there were no policies attached to Trump that guaranteed grocery prices will go down. The only Trump guarantee is that the TCJA will provide more tax benefits for the wealthy.

"I don't care if Donald Trump is racist!" My peer spat with his entire chest, "He's great for the economy!"

Do you want to hear the irony in this? Donald Trump hasn't been officially sworn in. Yet he, and his administration have reneged on the promises my black male peers held so dear. The grandiose promise of bringing grocery prices down has become a "very hard task", and he all of a sudden "can't guarantee tomorrow" when being asked about it.

To pour salt on the wound. The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) ran by South African immigrant Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, a first generation American. Recently informed the American people that they're planning to recruit H1B Visa immigrant workers from India. Donald Trump has flipped on his position and now supports the decision. This was the exact opposite of the campaign Donald Trump ran. White men, white women, Latino men, and my black male peers voted with the guarantee that the migrants be shipped out. Not more being shipped in. Elon Musk has no intention of providing Americans the education for the job. As Vivek Ramaswamy claims, American culture creates lazy workers with no values.

Is this what my black male peers wanted? It's what the majority of the country wanted. There are no take backs, and we all have to deal with it. Save the whataboutisms. The next four years are not about Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, or the Democrats. It will be about maintaining a society where we don't expect facts, humanity, or guarantees from our leadership.
