During the last speech that Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave he called us to action.
The speech was given in Memphis, Tennessee as he was there supporting the Sanitation Workers on April 3, 1968.
His speech was entitled, ‘I’ve been to the Mountain top.’
The final words spoken that evening was.
“Well, I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn't matter with me now, because I've been to the mountaintop.
And I don't mind.
Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land!”
Although most people remember him for the ‘I Have A Dream Speech that he gave in Washington DC at the Jobs and Freedom Rally, we should pay more attention to the I’ve been to the Mountain Top Speech.
During the 2024 issues of the Telegram on the Parenting Time Page we posted a Word each week from the speech, explained it and gave the word in context of the speech.
When you get a chance, take some time to read over the speech to relive his voice. I’m sure you will be captivated at the sound of his voice through his words.
